Jorge Mendes is still optimistic that Cristiano Ronaldo could sign for Atletico Madrid, according to El Larguero.
The Spanish club continues to distance itself from links to the Portuguese veteran but there is said to be hope, Atletico could eventually be persuaded.
Firstly, Diego Simeone will try and shift some of the club’s highest-paid players, including Antoine Griezmann and Saul Niguez.
Should Atletico eventually free up some cash, a move could very much be viable.
United would now ideally like to sell Ronaldo as Erik ten Hag does not want to keep players who do not wish to stay at the club.
According to Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepulveda, Ronaldo remains in Lisbon and is awaiting instructions from his agent Mendes, with Antony Martial expected to lead the line for United at the start of the season.
